Day Of Silence - Nyepi
Considered one of the most anticipated Hindu occasions, Nyepi is Bali’s ‘Day Of Silence’! Everyone must remain inside their homes, villas or hotels without any disturbances which means no travel, transport, work or sound. Even the airport closes!
Nyepi marks the start of a new year and is a Balinese tradition to cleanse the island from the previous year’s omens or misdoings. For the Balinese, meditation and blessings are practiced where foreigners are able to take part in the festivities that follow such as the Nyepi Eve parade and the Ngembak Geni known as the festival of smooches as youths are showered in water by villagers.
